The Precious Jules by Shawn Nocher is a poignant story of the Jules family spanning from the 1970s when the children were young, to 2009 as the family comes together to make a decision about the fate of one of their own, Ella.

When twins Ella and Belle were born Ella was deprived of oxygen resulting in a traumatic brain injury. Now, with five children and another on the way, Hilary their mother, is overwhelmed. She is concerned for the safety of her children since Ella is prone to violent behavior. The difficult decision to move Ella to Beechwood Institute changes the course of their lives forever.

Years later the institution must close their doors and another difficult decision needs to be made about where Ella will live. Hilary wants to right the wrongs of the past and have Ella return to her family home, while Ella’s caregiver of the last 32 years, Lynetta, wants Ella to remain with her. What transpires during the course of this story is truly memorable and heart rendering and asks the question, who are we to judge what’s right or wrong?
