Go on an adventure to the Arctic Ocean and meet the unicorns of the Arctic in this stunningly illustrated, non-fiction picture book, without having to leave the comfort of your own home! Within these pages, readers will be immersed into the life of the narwhal and get to learn about the seasonal behaviours of this unique whale. In the winter, the illustrations teach us how the narwhals joust with their tusks, swim in leads and dive deep to use echolocation to find food. As summer approaches, we learn that narwhals migrate as a pod, using the same route as their ancestors and that they must be careful of the dangers shallow summer waters hold.
Candace Fleming has given sea mammal lovers of all ages a book that is both lyrical and highly informative. It brings to life the majestic beauty of the narwhal and shows us how these mammals survive a long and perilous Arctic migratory round. Also, an enlightening afterward provides a glimpse into the research process for the book, along with shedding light on how these unicorns of the Arctic could soon become endangered due to their Arctic habitat being threatened by climate change. Finally, Narwhal: Unicorn of the Arctic is rich in facts, full of feelings and will transport curious readers to the frigid waters of the Arctic!
