Jen’s Pick (June)

Doug Salati’s Caldecott Medal-winning “Hot Dog” tells the story of an overwhelmed dachshund suffering from the oppressive heat and noise of a city summer. When the “hot dog” finally refuses to move, his understanding owner takes him on an impromptu journey to the beach for a much-needed escape. Through vibrant, expressive illustrations and sparse, lyrical text, the book beautifully captures the sensory overload of the city and the blissful relief found in nature’s calm. It’s a heartwarming tale about finding peace, the bond between a pet and their human, and the simple joys of a refreshing day.
