Buckle up and prepare for takeoff.  This novel largely takes place on a direct, twenty hour flight from London to Sydney. What could go wrong? It turns out someone on the flight doesn’t want the plane to reach its destination and makes their demands known in an anonymous note. Complying with the demands won’t be easy for the flight attendant who received the note. As time quickly counts down the attendant has a difficult decision to be made; save the lives of the people on the plane or make the choice to save the lives of those important to her at home.

Told from different points of view, the story is primarily narrated by Mina the flight attendant and her husband Adam. In addition we hear from various passengers on board the flight and are given some insight about their lives, why they are travelling, and how their lives are about to change.

Hostage is a very entertaining read, full of suspense and tense non-stop action. Definitely a page turner with a clever twist at the end that I didn’t see coming and that was absolutely brilliant. If you are a fan of Ruth Ware, B.A Paris or Shari Lapena then I suggest you give this title a try. Other titles I have enjoyed by Clare Mackintosh and recommend are I Let You Go and I See You.
