Eclipse Glasses Distribution

March 26, 2024

The library has a limited quantity of ISO-12312-2 certified solar eclipse glasses available for L&A library card holders. Thank you to Discover the Universe for our glasses supply. To get your free glasses you may:

  1. Register for one of our eclipse programs here. Eclipse program attendees will be prioritized in our glasses distribution.
  2. Starting April 2nd, L&A library card holders may pick up glasses by visiting any library branch during the branch’s normal business hours. Limit of two pairs of glasses per person.

Glasses and viewers are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last. Please be patient while staff works to accommodate library visitors and ensure a smooth distribution process.

What branches will have eclipse glasses/viewers?

All L&A branches will have glasses and/or viewers available. Please click a branch below for its location and hours. We will update the list below as we run out of quantities:

How many glasses can I have?

There is a limit of two per person. Each member of a group (e.g., a caregiver and child) is considered an individual person. For example, if a caregiver visits a library branch with a child, the caregiver and child are eligible for two glasses/viewers each. However, if the child is not with the caregiver, then the caregiver is only eligible for two.

Do I need a L&A library card to get glasses?

Yes, consider it a library card perk. If you are a resident of L&A and do not already have a library card, you are welcome to register for one.

Can I place a hold on glasses/viewers?

No holds. All glasses/viewers are available on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last.

What happens when L&A branches run out of eclipse glasses?

Please note that glasses/viewers are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and we cannot guarantee supply at any branch. Check our website and social media channels for updates.

Will the library have special eclipse programming?

Yes! Register for our eclipse education programs here.

When do program participants pick up their glasses?

If you are registered for an in-person program, you will receive your glasses at the program. If you are registered for a Zoom program, you can pick up your glasses on Wednesday, April 3rd. They will be reserved for you until Friday, April 5th.

How do I use the eclipse glasses safely?

Our friends at Discover the Universe have a ton of resources, including an Eye Safety & The Sun fact sheet.
